Principal/Senior Energy Economist

The Renewable Energy segment work with clients across energy technologies as solar, wind, hydropower, hydrogen and batteries, to support in the clean energy development for our clients. Advisory Services (REAS) combines financial, technical and market competence, and is the commercial hub for services related to renewable energy, and highlighted in the strategy as an important area for growth. We support clients in delivering renewable energy programs designed to assist governments in the implementation of renewable energy projects, support in a number of electrification projects, deliver finance and deal advisory as well as integrated energy management systems and technology and market studies. Over the past ten years, REAS has grown a large project portfolio in Norway and Sub-Sahara Africa. In addition, we support Multiconsult’s wind, solar and hydropower teams all over the world.

Seamlessly integrated with Multiconsult´s 300 power and renewables engineers, REAS provides economic and financial advisory services to a broad set of private and public sector clients across the Nordics and Africa. As an economic analyst in REAS you will work with our team of advisors supporting these Norwegian and international clients navigate and thrive in increasingly renewable and complex power markets, while building new, sustainable business and better functioning energy systems. Services REAs provides include investment programme management, electrification management, regulatory advisory, strategic planning, energy market analysis, due diligence and policy advisory.

As part of REAS, you will enter a broader team of engineers and analysts at the forefront of implementing the energy revolution in Norway and abroad. REAS work seamlessly with our market leading solar, smart grid, storage and grid analyses teams and experts. This offers a unique opportunity for you as economic/financial analyst to work directly with market leading technology experts.

What will you be doing?

  • Contribute to successful execution of a wide range of consulting assignments in power and renewables in Norway and internationally
  • Manage often multidisciplinary projects, including budget responsibility and close client follow-up
  • Actively cultivate client relationships and develop new business opportunities
  • Develop and expand the business within a growing market
  • Contribute to the development of Multiconsult’s financial and economic modelling tools

Who are we looking for?

In order to become a successful energy economist in Multiconsult we believe that you are curious, analytical, independent, and committed to understanding and supporting the energy transition. In addition, we are looking for the following qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in economics, finance, or similar
  • At least five years of relevant experience gained at an international consultancy, a utility, or similar
  • Strong financial modelling skills is an advantage, as is experience in power market modelling (e.g. PyPSA and Balmorel)
  • A good understanding of renewable energy technologies, be it from an environmental, development, technological or business context
  • The ability to convey something complex in simple terms; the ability to extract appealing storylines from data
  • Excellent oral and written English skills – fluency in Scandinavian language a plus but not a must
